Web Standards

This website is build using xhtml, php, and css. As such, it is compliant to all applicable standards and every page has been tested to validate for both xhtml and css. This is an important part of a website because if it is built out of bad code that does not validate, it will likely appear differently then desired in various browsers and will not work properly.

Usability

The ideas taught in the book "Don't make me think" by Steve Krug have been applied in the construction of this site. These usability principles include such things as following internet customs by having the navigation on the side, having links underlined, and having a copyright statement in the footer.

Another principle applied in the construction of this website is the omission of needless words. What text there is in the website has been written to be entertaining and breif. Long pages of text have been strictly avoided because people go the library to read a book and go to the internet to get information quickly.

SEO

This website has also been constructed with google rankings in mind. All links have titles in the achor tag to have a repetition of key words which spiders from google pick up on. Alt information has also been included in all images to have once again a repetition of relevent words to increase the google ranking of the site.

Building a website with these ideas in mind is important because the majority of all visitors to a website traditionally come through google searches. The best information in the world can be contained in a website, but if the site is ranked as page number two million down on the list of results to searchers, it is unlikely that it will be frequently viewed.

Return On Investment

This website has been built with the intention to also have a good return on investment. Costs have been kept to a minimum in the construction of this site and while no ads are present on the site currently, visitors do have the option to donate to the website to keep it oporating without ads. I beleive this approach has an appeal to visotrs and that those that a significant percent of those that feel that have gained from the existance of the website will make a donation in recognition of that.
