Making a header image

The resource I used was an html code tutorial from http://community.livejournal.com/header_tutorial and the open source image editing software GIMP.

What I learned

An image header at the top of your side can give you a unique and smooth look, but it requires a little art and a little knowledge of picture editing software.

Some of the benefits of image headers are:

• I give your website a unique look.
• It appears at the top of every page so it ties the look of the website together.
• It is custom made, so you can get jut the look you want.

How I implemented my header image

I looked around online and found a few ideas to get inspiration, then I went to GIMP image editing software and came up with a header that fit the dimentions and look that I was going for. I also wanted to make sure that the image appeared only once and did not repeat or tile, so I found the no-repeat code and put that in my css file.

Overall I am against using images whever text is an option, but I decided to use text in my header image because I wanted to make sure that it looked exactly the same on any browser.
